DIY Dating: Creative Dating Ideas Like the Chinese Menu Date — Not My Shu Pork = Bowling

by Melea on May 12, 2010

Ever go trolling around online for dating ideas and end up on creative dating idea sites like this? It doesn’t have to be this way. Here is something you can try at home for someone you like. A lot. Or already love. I don’t advise doing this with someone you’re just sort of into. This is a helluva surprise. It will be awkward. Promise. :).

Step 1: Rifle through your menu drawer. Grab an old menu–for a restaurant you like. If you don’t live in a major city, move to Step 1a.

Step 1A: (for non-city dwellers) Look at the magnets on your fridge. Choose a restaurant that delivers–likely pizza or Chinese. Find a menu for the restaurant you are choosing (probably online).

Step 2: Got one? Chinese is what I’m using in this experiment. Other food genres can work too.

Step 3: Now, think of the menu as a template with sections–that you can play with. We’re going to make that menu into a date-with-a-theme. Usually, a restaurant menu has appetizers, entrees, and desserts. Those three sections dovetail nicely with three sections of a date: Food, Activity, #$&%.

The first time I did this, I used a Chinese Menu. (Why and how I did it is a very good story that I will likely tell in three months or so when I get to know you better.)

Got your menu? Let me know what it is in the comments. And we’ll get started. This is gonna be good. Once we have five people with menus, I’ll write Part II. Go tell your friends.
